On January 1, 2022, two of the oldest medical associations in the Country merged. The Middlesex and New London County Medical Associations joined to form the Eastern Connecticut Medical Association. ECMA is non-profit professional membership association representing the physicians in Eastern CT for the following purposes:​

1. To bring together into one organization the physicians of Eastern Connecticut.

2. To enlighten and direct public opinion so that the profession shall become increasingly useful to the public, in the prevention, management and cure of disease, and in prolonging and adding of comfort to life.

3. To investigate, discuss, and communicate Socio-Economic problems of concern and interest to the members and their patients.

4. To maintain, in cooperation with other CT County Medical Associations and the State Medical Society, a unified voice for organized medicine.
